What exactly is reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, energy-based healing practice that supports the body, mind, and spirit. At its core, Reiki is about restoring balance—helping your natural energy flow more freely so your body can do what it already knows how to do: heal.

The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words:

Rei, meaning universal or spiritual wisdom, and

Ki, meaning life force energy.

Together, Reiki translates loosely to universal life force energy—the same energy found in nature, breath, movement, and all living things.

How Does Reiki Work?

During a Reiki session, a practitioner lightly places their hands on or just above the body. There is no pressure, manipulation, or force. Instead, Reiki energy flows where it is needed most—often to places holding stress, emotional weight, or energetic blockages.

You don’t have to believe in Reiki for it to work. Many people experience it simply as deep relaxation, while others notice emotional release, clarity, or physical ease. Reiki meets you exactly where you are.

What Can Reiki Help With?

Reiki is not a replacement for medical care, but it is a powerful complementary practice. People often turn to Reiki to support:

  • Stress and anxiety relief

  • Emotional healing and release

  • Mental clarity and grounding

  • Better sleep and relaxation

  • Spiritual connection and self-awareness

  • Support during times of transition or healing

Each session is unique, because each person’s energy—and life—is unique.

What Does Reiki Feel Like?

Experiences vary, but common sensations include warmth, tingling, gentle pulsing, or a sense of floating. Some people see colors, feel emotions rise and release, or drift into a meditative state. Others simply feel calm and peaceful. There is no “right” way to experience Reiki.

Is Reiki Safe?

Yes. Reiki is gentle, non-invasive, and safe for people of all ages. It honors free will and never forces energy where it isn’t welcome. Reiki works with your body’s wisdom, not against it.

Reiki as a Healing Journey

Reiki isn’t about being “fixed.” It’s about remembering wholeness. It invites you to slow down, listen inward, and reconnect with yourself on a deeper level. Whether you’re just beginning your healing journey or looking to deepen your spiritual practice, Reiki offers a soft place to land.

If you’re feeling called to rest, release, or realign, Reiki may be exactly what your spirit has been asking for.
